The Bocconi Economics Student Association invites you to its upcoming event: Institutional Reform in the Euro Area – what is needed to prevent another financial crisis. We will have the opportunity to explore ongoing challenges and review the development, emergence and renewal of political economy in Europe. The theme of this event will center around financial crisis management with a focus on the pressures facing Europe’s welfare states in a time of fiscal austerity and how political institutions can strengthen to fix this system. The discussion will analyze fundamental reforms and outline relevant changes from a European point of view.
Speaker Profile:
We have the honour to welcome an esteemed member of the Economics department, Professor Guido Tabellini. Prof. Tabellini has been a professor of Economics at Bocconi University since 1994 and was rector from 2008 to 2012. He is a foreign honorary member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, a fellow of the Econometric Society, a fellow of the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research. He received his Laurea from the University of Turin and a PhD from UCLA. Post doctorate, he taught at Stanford and UCLA before returning to Italy. His other appointments included President of the European Economic Association, as well as a Consultant to the World Bank and the Italian government. Prof. Tabellini received the Yrjo Jahnsson award in 2001 for ‘contribution in theoretical and applied research that is significant to the study of economics in Europe’.
